Is Barcelona still a cool city?

I’m used to think that Barcelona is a pretty cool city. But lately, I don’t feel so: same people, same places… I feel little bit jealous about other cities: Valencia, Madrid, San Sebastian… they are getting pretty new stuff: congress, concerts, different cultural activities + exhibitions… I feel like if Barcelona tries to be cool but it isn’t. Maybe it is my perception but yesterday night, after having a marvelous night at a friend’s flat, we ended up talking about the same. Yeah, Barcelona’s got a little patina of coolness but it has lost too much.

Now, realizing that, what can we do? I’ve know about different acts while we are writing or reading this blog but I’ve got this run-run in my head…Are we trying to be cool or are we really cool (Barcelona’s people)? Any suggestions for a cool city will be appreciated.

Japanese Low Line jeans, over the line?

wedgie_jeans1

One of japanese characteristic is the short legs. Boys like long legs and girls hate short legs. If your legs are not long… one way to conceal the shortness is fashion. And a good trick to do so is to wear short jeans that make your legs look long.

sexy-not-back2 sexy-jeans

These new type of jeans appeared in the market in summer 2006 and are known as ultra low line jeans, they are also known as bikini-jeans because you can use them to show off your bikini in the city. ( Apparently the girl on the left was not aware of the bikini part and is showing bare underwear ^ .^)

Lucky you. Guess Who is back in Barcelona ?

IMG_0469You may be like me, going rather for the high quality product that will only be recognized by the connoisseur, than for the Bag/Sunglasses/Underwear wearing a big Brand logo trying to convince every passing by that you did not spend all of your money for an advertising support…
No ? you prefer wearing a CocaCola cap you got on the Tour de France ?
Then uh, yes, What was I talking about ?

The USB necktie, all about Kaizen & Sustainable development.

Don’t tell me that you don’t know yet the USB necktie ?
THE ultimate present for your friend who is obliged to work all day long with a necktie in a barely air-conditionned office.

This one was a immmediate worldwide success during the 2007 summer.

The USB necktie of generation 1

Can you feel the pleasure ?
The story behind, since 2005 2006, the Cool-Biz movement have grown in Japan.
A sort of pre-sustainable super fashion anticipation, where governments & major companies decided to raise the air-conditionned temperature of summer by 2 degrees, up to 26 degree celcius. The implied consequence was the need to push managers to allow workers to come to work without a necktie.
In most companies it worked, but in some, you can guess, the temperature went up and the neck-tie was still there.
You can also imagine the life of the Sales forces guy who is obliged to align to every companies, no choice, you keep the necktie.

Thus the joke, a maker proposed this usb necktie which could be stamped sustainable development as it consumes less than the air-conditionned.

But what will happen in the world of Kaizen, the continuous improvement ?
Of course, the main problems were hired out with the USB necktie of second generation in 2008 !

Now you can hide the fan and unplug yourself from the compute.

All that said, it will certainly become fashionable in Europe also, thought the elegance of this innovation may be properly understood only in highly educated circles, such as by engineers.

LinkedIN

Genis Pi Ferrer organized a linkedIN power dinner in the already cool (but sometimes biz lagging) Barcelona scene.

Though Steve and Jobs could not make it (we hope they can next time) 12 executives from concerns such as McKinsey, Abertis, HSBC, DB, vLEX attended. A representative from leading photo sharing site this-is-my-wedding also attended. Seven out of the 12 participants confessed to own a blog.

Lovemarks

We all love brads. We ADORE brands. And worst of all, we can’t live without them. Easy to answer the question you are thinking of (maybe…”why do we worship brands?”). We rely on them, on the people who have thoroughly worked constructing it, the company that owns (ejem, pays) the workers, making it “indispensable” in our lives thanks to incredible fashionable marketing campaigns. We can’t live without THAT gadget. We can’t live thinking that it can run out of batteries or can be stolen or wait! it is almost going to be scratched thanks to your nails! and so…

These are what we call LOVEMARKS. Just trescend ones (i.e. Apple vs Rimax). Wanna know more about them, take a look at Saatchi & Saatchi lovemarks. You can find profiles etc of the best known brands and many other stuff. Though the most useful part is the Inspirational Consumer… That’s a clue.
